Apartment 303, owned by Mrs. Malek, an artist and painter, is situated in a residential complex built in the late 70s and had remained unaltered since then. This small apartment holds sentimental value as it has been passed down from her grandmother.
Our objective was to retain the essence of the existing elements while adapting them to meet the contemporary functional and energy requirements of a modern dwelling. To infuse the space with the artist client’s unique characteristics, we utilized vibrant colors and handcrafted materials.
In response to the clients’ needs, we made significant modifications to the original plan. Instead of two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, the new design includes a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a private bathroom, as well as a separate room designated as her painting studio.
The old kitchen, being small and impractical, disrupted the flow and failed to meet the clients’ needs. The client requested a kitchen that could be integrated with the living room but could also be completely separated if needed. As a result, we incorporated a fully openable accordion door in the kitchen design, offering flexibility to merge or separate the spaces. The accordion-like doors were also designed to complement the preserved old door with meshed glass and maintain uniform proportions.
