Malek Gallery is a renovation project of an old building located on Enghelab Street in the heart of Tehran, Iran, a street that holds great cultural value in the city.
Our objective was to create a neutral and modern gallery space with walls that would provide optimal conditions for displaying artworks while also honoring the past. Achieving this required careful attention to detail, particularly in the combination of white and brick walls.
The previous courtyard’s chaotic layout consisted of steps with 5 cm height differences, limiting mobility and lacking gathering space. To address this issue, we reimagined the courtyard by dividing it into distinct levels, each designated for a specific purpose.
Drawing inspiration from Iranian garden design, we incorporated water elements and green areas to connect the different levels of the courtyard. These natural features not only enhance the visual appeal of the space but also create a cohesive atmosphere that promotes seamless transitions between the various areas. By utilizing water and greenery, we achieved a sense of continuity and harmony throughout the courtyard, elevating its functionality and aesthetic appeal to new heights.
